Al-anon is an organization that was created
soon after Alcoholics Anonymous was formed
and Al-anon even uses the same recovery principles
as Alcoholics Anonymous. Al-anon is different
however, in that it addresses the recovery
needs of those whose lives have been affected
by a problem drinker or drug user. Studies
show that for every problem drinker or drug
abuser, the lives of those close to them are
routinely disrupted to the point where Al-anon
could help develop new coping techniques.
Al-anon can help relatives, spouses, co-workers,
friends and other loved ones whose lives are
being affected by a problem drinker. Individuals
who have learned codependent behavior problems
from childhood or teens that have alcoholic
parents can be helped by the program of Al-anon.
Sometimes meetings are not sufficient in and
of themselves and the Al-anon program agrees
that their program can compliment professional
treatment and therapy.
The path to
recovery from the effects of living with a
problem drinker or drug abuser can be as difficult
as getting off alcohol and drugs itself. Behavior
patterns and coping mechanisms have been ingrained
into the thinking, feelings and personality
of a codependent to the point where the false
appears to be true and the consequences are
denied and excused.
Al-anon asks
several questions to help identify whether
or not you might have a problem. We believe
if you have found this site that this question
has already been answered and now you would
like to know how to get help.
Spencer Recovery
Centers is a professional rehabilitation clinic
that has been helping problem drinkers and
drug users as well as their families. We have
treated thousands of clients and their family
members and can create a strong foundation
through individual and group therapy that
will aid in the recovery communities of Alcoholics
Anonymous and Al-anon.
If you worry
about how much someone drinks or feel that
your own needs are going unmet because all
of your time and attention is going to please
a problem drinker or drug abuser, we can help.
We encourage
you to give us a call today even if your problem
drinker or drug abuser is refusing to seek
treatment. Many clients who have sought treatment
from Al-anon for codependency have found that
it is an important first step in changing
their lives for the better and often is a
catalyst for change for the problem substance
abuser. The bottom line is that many of us
codependents have to learn to live for ourselves
and not find happiness through another person.
Call Spencer
Recovery Centers today for more information
about codependency and how we can introduce
you to Al-anon. The call is confidential and
toll free so call today.
